Welcome Down Under

Dear Colleagues

On behalf of the International Society of Audiology (ISA), it's our great privilege and pleasure to extend an invitation to you to attend and participate in the XXXII World Congress of Audiology, May 3-7 2014. This is the second occasion that the World Congress has travelled 'down under', and we look forward to welcoming you to Brisbane, the gateway to Australia's Great Barrier Reef, golden beaches and national heritage-listed islands and rainforest.

The XXXII World Congress is being hosted by Audiology Australia, the principal professional organisation representing audiologists in Australia together with the HEARing Cooperative Research Centre, a consortium of twenty-six organisations dedicated to improving the prevention and remediation of hearing loss. The XXXII World Congress is also strongly supported by our industry colleagues, other related professional organisations, and by consumer advocates, ensuring that delegates will have the opportunity to meet with and exchange knowledge with a broad range of the hearing healthcare sector.

Invitation to Submit an Abstract

The XXII World Congress of Audiology 2014 will include presentations across a wide range of topical areas in audiology. Our Program will kick off with a comprehensive range of Pre-Congress Workshops and Instructional Courses and Sponsor's Symposiums. A special feature of this part of the program are two public lectures, the Libby Harricks Memorial Oration, delivered on behalf of the Deafness Forum, the peak body for hearing healthcare consumer groups in Australia, and the Denis Byrne Memorial Lecture, delivered on behalf of Audiology Australia.

These sessions will provide the perfect lead-in to the Congress Scientific Program, which features invited
Round Table presentations on the topical themes of Living in a Noisy World, Central Auditory Plasticity, and Audiological Services in the Next 10-20 years. In addition, a number of special symposiums on issues such as Global Audiology and Early Intervention are planned. The program will be rounded out with submitted
presentations on a range of themes, covering all aspects of audiology, including basic science, clinical practice, and rehabilitation, technology and professional issues and practice.

The Organising Committee of the XXXII World Congress of Audiology is now inviting submission of abstracts for inclusion in either the Pre-congress Workshops and Instructional Course Program or for the Congress
Scientific Program for 2014.

Details of submission for these two different parts of the Congress Program are noted following.

Pre-Congress Workshop/Instructional Courses Program

Submission Information for Workshop/Instructional Courses:

A workshop is an interactive short course, ninety (90) minutes in duration. In a workshop participants are
to be actively engaged in learning new skills and/or exploring the issues surrounding a specific topic in detail. A description of the format/process you wish to use to ensure the interactive nature of the workshop is required in
your submission.

An instructional session is more instructive and less interactive in nature than a workshop. It is also ninety (90) minutes in duration. An instructional session should focus on providing detailed information about a specific topic (more than could be provided in a short presentation in the congress proper). It is expected that instructional sessions will include a number of presenters who discuss different aspects of the same topic. Although an instructional session is not as interactive as a workshop it should nevertheless include ample time for questions from participants.

All submissions must be made on-line at the WCA website.

Each submission must include:

Authors submitting an abstract for inclusion in the Pre-Congress Workshop and Instructional Session program should clearly note this in their submission.
